Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition where someone experiences unwanted, repetitive thoughts (obsessions) and feels driven to perform certain actions or routines (compulsions) to reduce anxiety—such as repeatedly checking locks, washing hands, counting, or arranging items in a specific way.

Trauma and stress happen when someone experiences or witnesses events that feel overwhelming, frightening, or deeply distressing. Situations like accidents, abuse, loss, violence, or ongoing high stress can sometimes affect how a person’s mind and body respond to the world around them.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured therapy that helps people process and heal from traumatic or distressing experiences. Using guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps the brain reprocess difficult memories so they become less overwhelming. It is widely used to treat trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and other emotional challenges.

An escalator

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a highly effective, evidence-based therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorders. In ERP, individuals gradually face thoughts, situations, or triggers that cause anxiety while learning to resist the urge to perform compulsive behaviors. Over time, this process helps reduce fear, build confidence, and retrain the brain to respond to anxiety in healthier ways.
